Textbooks Saving Tips by Andrew Korn
New semester is coming up and you are eager to get back to college/university get down to parting and studying. It has become a part of your life to party and studying, as well as that feeling…. a crave for money. As most of the student you probably are going through this dilemma, where to get the money? Studying and partying takes a lot of time and a lot of money – not leaving a lot of time for actually making make money. So what is the solution? The one that many and many students come down to is saving. As the saying goes “Saved money are the earned money”. So in this article you’ll find out how to save on one of the biggest student expenses – textbooks.
It seems to be a necessity for majority of programs and you can’t avoid going through the course without a textbook, some of the professors won’t even let you go to their class without one. But when you add the costs of the books + the tax it comes down to a MINIMUM of $400 bucks a semester. I am coming from my personal experience (graduated in marketing program). When it comes down to science programs such as biology and nursing – one book can cost as much as $200!!! multiply it by 6 courses and add taxes and it can get to $1500 a semester! Looks like a rip off to me, considering that that’s how much a semester costs at a regular college. So, saving on this expense will help you a lot. %50 discount will help you save up to $800!!! Ok, so lets get down to the meat and find out how you can get such savings on the textbooks.
In fact there are really many ways to find cheap and affordable textbooks for sale that many students are not aware of. So we are going to go through them right now.
1. EBay + Amazon
One of the places where you can find cheap and discounted textbooks online is Amazon and EBay. Let’s consider the positive and negative specters of using these guys:
Positive
1. You save money!
Negative
1. Sometimes it’s really hard to find a many textbooks on these sites.
2. Shipping time can take a while (up to 3 weeks)
3. Shipping and handling again costs you some $ – so the total saving are not that
big.
2. Local used textbook resellers/bookstore buy back
That is a good one – if you do have one around.
Positive
1. You save money
2. You find the book – you can buy it on the spot
Negative
1. The max savings I’ve seen are 25% for textbook in a descent condition
2. A lot of textbooks in a very poor condition
3. Online classifieds such as Craig’s List and Kijiji
Positive
1. Money saver
Negative
1. It’s not that often that you find textbooks on this websites. If you do u can get a deal.
4. Posters around the school
This is a good one too.
Positive
1. It saves you more money than the 3 above methods. Usually used textbooks sold by students themselves go for %50 of the original price and no tax – really good price.
2. You can find a lot of relevant books since there are lots of people in your program.
Negative
1. You have to do some footwork around the campus to find the books you need.
5. StudentsMetro.com
The last and the most optimal way is to use StudentsMetro.com. The website has been specifically designed for such students needs as textbooks. It takes just a few click to find the textbooks from your school for sale by other students. The website already counts over 1000 classified listings places by other students. So that instead of going around the school looking for posters you can find them all in the comfort of sitting in front of your home computer. Plus all the listings are searchable and that is why we recommend using StudentsMetro.com for your textbook search perposes.
